Padmavati row: Flanked by police protection, Sanjay Leela Bhansali steps out

Ever since he has been receiving threats, Padmavati director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been keeping a low profile.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali has finally stepped out in public, weeks after his film Padmavati fell into trouble.

Even as Deepika has been at the receiving the end of sharp criticism, it was Bhansali who was manhandled and slapped by the Karni Sena during the first
schedule of the film in Rajasthan.

“Since there is a bounty on his head, one does not know what anyone can do. Hence, Bhansali has been staying away from the

limelight. Normally one can see him roaming around Versova where he stays. He even carries his Ganesh idol himself on foot to immerse it. He did it this year too. But in the event of this fatwa of sorts, he did not want to come out. He has also been accorded police protection and it is much more than what Deepika has been given as well,” says a source close to the filmmaker.

Bhansali was spotted at the Mumbai airport with the police in tow as he had to fly to Delhi to appear before a 30-member Parliamentary panel along with CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi to appraise them about the situation, the film and its censor issues. Anurag Thakur heads the panel, which also includes actor MPs Paresh Rawal and Raj Babbar.

Sources say that a major decision would be reached once the panel is appraised about the accusation that the film has tampered with history.
