Speculations are rife that Akshay will be seen as hockey player Balbir Singh in the sports biopic Gold'.

Mumbai: Akshay Kumar, who has tasted success with real life drama ‘Rustom’, is set to feature in yet another real life story. Rumour has it that the ‘Special 26’ star will be seen as Balbir Singh, who was part of the three-time Olympic winning Indian hockey team but never got his due as an outstanding player.

Akshay tweeted: Set in 1948, the historic story of India’s first Olympic medal as a free nation, #GOLD coming to you on 15th August 2018!

Singh was part of the 1948 Olympic-winning hockey team and went on to become the Vice-Captain in 1952. In 1956, he was given the responsibility to head the Indian hockey squad. India won gold at the Olympics in 1948, 1952 and 1956 and Balbir Singh was part of all the three teams. Despite India’s dreamlike success at the Olympics and some outstanding records to his credit, Balbir never got the recognition he rightly deserved.

Singh is so passionate about the sport that even after retiring from Indian hockey he continued being a part it, first as a coach and then the manager of the Indian hockey team.

Given his successful run as the lead actor in all three real life dramas- ‘ Airlift’, ‘Rustom’ and ‘ Special 26’- it will not be surprising to see him pull this one off with perfection.
