Deepika Padukone to turn Hollywood producer

Actress Deepika Padukone will also star in a cross-cultural rom-com

Deepika Padukone, who has already produced films like Chhapaak and 83 and will be producing the remake of The Intern, is now producing a Hollywood flick in which she is starring. The actress is following in the footsteps of Priyanka Chopra, who is the executive producer of Hollywood’s The White Tiger and is producing other films in the US too.

Deepika’s project is being developed by STXfilms, a division of Eros STX Global Corporation. Adam Fogelson, chairman, STXfilms Motion Picture Group announced that the company is developing a romantic comedy for Deepika Padukone, who will also produce the film through her Ka Productions banner.
The studio is in negotiations with Temple Hill Productions Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen (the Twilight franchise, The Fault in Our Stars, Love, Simon) to develop the project, which will be a sweeping cross-cultural romantic comedy cantered around Deepika. Isaac Klausner is overseeing the project for Temple Hill.

“There is a reason Deepika Padukone is one of the biggest global stars to come from India. She is enormously talented, with an infectious personality and her profile continues to grow as an international superstar. While she has been a phenomenal success in many Eros International films, we are thrilled to be building a romantic comedy with her and our friends at Temple Hill. We believe this project gives us the opportunity to tap into the spirit, voice, characters and vibrant settings of India and New York in ways that made Crazy Rich Asians feel so authentic and fresh,” Fogelson said.

STXfilms has produced, acquired, distributed and marketed movies like Greenland, Hustlers, Bad Moms, The Upside, The Gentlemen, Molly’s Game, and The Gift.

“Our company Ka Productions was founded with the aim to develop and produce purposeful content with global appeal. I am happy to be collaborating with STXfilms and Temple Hill Productions, who share Ka’s ambition and creative vision and look forward to bringing impactful and dynamic cross-cultural stories to the world,” Deepika said. The actress made her Hollywood debut with Vin Diesel in XXX: Return of Xander Cage.
