David Dhawan’s 1993 blockbuster Aankhen is set for a remake, and reprising Govinda’s role in it is the actor’s unabashed fan, Varun Dhawan. Filling in for the partner-in-crime Chunky Pandey, is a newcomer discovered by the film’s producer, and CBFC chief, Pahlaj Nihalani.

The original duo Bunnu and Munnu (Govinda and Chunky) are however expected to play cameo roles in the film which is scheduled to go on floors in the latter half of 2016.
While an official announcement of the sequel is awaited, a source close to the development said, “Aankhen 2 will take the story forward. The main characters Bunnu and Munnu will remain the same but the actors will change.”
It was earlier reported that Rohit Shetty had approached Nihalani for the rights of the film and showed interest in directing it, but the latter turned down his offer saying that he had a different vision for it.
