Imtiaz Ali lends a hand to his college senior

The venue of the launch was Sunny Super Sound in Mumbai which made Imtiaz nostalgic.

Imtiaz Ali was seen at the trailer launch of Simmi Karna’s film Cute Kameena. Simmi happens to be the director’s senior from Hindu College, Delhi University. Imtiaz, however, is quick to clarify that it is not his personal equation alone that brought him to the trailer launch. He says that if he likes someone’s work, he’ll do his best to support it.

“I told Simmi that I’d only come for the trailer launch if I like what I see. And she was fine with that. I saw the trailer and really liked it. I decided I would help spread the word in whatever way I can. I am yet to see the film though,” says Imtiaz. The venue of the launch was Sunny Super Sound in Mumbai which made Imtiaz nostalgic. “My first film too screened here and today I am here to help another first timer.”

Director Simmi has quite a few friends in the industry. “Delhi University has given a lot of talent to the industry. I have been in Mumbai for 25 years now and I have seen the struggle of my batchmates Vishal Bharadwaj, Manoj Bajpai, Ashish Vidyarthi etc. It’s very difficult to be a woman filmmaker and it requires a lot of hard work to make a film. But with the support of my team, financers and now Imtiaz, my film is up for release.”
