Antarra Banerjee Clarifies FIR Misidentification
Addressing the media, Antarra Banerjee expressed disappointment over the lack of verification before her image was used in connection with a legal matter.

Actress Antarra Banerjee, known for her work in television shows such as Badho Bahu, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Divya Drishti,Laal Ishq, Gumrah, and Savdhaan India, as well as web series and the popular music video “Chaap Tilak,” addressed the media at a press conference regarding the wrongful use of her photograph and identity in news reports related to an FIR concerning another individual.
The controversy erupted after several news portals, websites, and social media platforms allegedly published Antarra Banerjee’s photograph while reporting on an FIR that had no connection with her. Upon verification of the FIR, it was found that the person named in the complaint was Antara Soham Banerjee, a Thane-based model, and not actress Antarra Banerjee.
Despite the clear distinction between the two individuals, Antarra’s photograph was widely circulated across multiple platforms, leading to confusion and distress among her family, friends, and professional associates.
Addressing the media, Antarra Banerjee expressed disappointment over the lack of verification before her image was used in connection with a legal matter.
“A simple verification of the FIR would have established that I have absolutely no connection with this case. Yet my photograph was used and circulated across multiple platforms, creating unnecessary confusion and causing damage to my reputation,” she said.
The actress revealed that within less than 24 hours of the reports being published, she received more than 900 phone calls, WhatsApp messages, and social media messages from concerned relatives, industry colleagues, media professionals, and well-wishers seekingclarification.
According to Antarra, the incident caused immense mental stress and emotional trauma to both her and her family.
“My identity and reputation have been built through years of hard work in the entertainment industry. It is extremely painful to be linked to a matter with which I have no connection whatsoever,” she said.
During the press conference, Antarra appealed to all media organizations, websites, digital platforms, and social media pages that had published her photograph to immediately remove the incorrect image and update their reports with accurate information.
“I request all publications, portals, television channels, websites, and social media platforms to correct the information wherever my photograph or identity has been wrongly used. Responsible journalism begins with verification,” she stated.
The actress clarified that her intention was not to attack the media but to highlight the importance of fact-checking and accountability in journalism.
“This is not just about me. Today it is Antarra Banerjee; tomorrow it could be someone else. A reputation takes years to build and only minutes to damage. More than 900 calls and messages in less than a day show how quickly misinformation spreads. I hope this incident encourages greater responsibility and verification before anyone’s identity is linked to a legal matter,” she added.
Industry observers noted that while Antarra firmly defended her reputation, she also called for constructive action rather than confrontation. The incident has reignited discussions about media ethics, verification standards, and the responsibilities that come with reporting in an era where information spreads instantly across digital platforms.
Antarra Banerjee expressed hope that all concerned organizations would promptly rectify the error and ensure that similar incidents do not happen to others in the future.
