After Akhanda 2, High Court Halts Release of Vaa Vaathiyaar

The Madras High Court has issued a temporary stay on the film’s release over a ₹21.78 crore loan conflict between producer K.E. Gnanavel Raja and investor Arjunlal Sundardas.

Close on the heels of the Chennai High Court halting the release of the Telugu film Akhanda 2 — a stay that was later vacated after dues were settled — another major project has now hit a legal roadblock. Karthi’s much-awaited Vaa Vaathiyaar (titled Annagaru Vostaru in Telugu), directed by Nalan Kumarasamy and scheduled for release on December 12, has run into fresh trouble due to a financial dispute.

The Madras High Court has issued a temporary stay on the film’s release over a ₹21.78 crore loan conflict between producer K.E. Gnanavel Raja and investor Arjunlal Sundardas. According to court documents, the loan—originally ₹10.35 crore—grew significantly with interest after repeated delays in repayment despite earlier extensions.

Studio Green, the production house, has been directed to either clear the dues or submit the film’s revenue until the amount is settled. With only days left for the planned release, the stay has thrown the film’s prospects into uncertainty.

Production of Vaa Vaathiyaar, which began in 2023, had already faced several delays, and the legal battle further complicates matters. Fans are now anxiously awaiting a resolution.

With the stay currently in effect, the film’s release hangs in the balance. The producer must resolve the issue by December 12 to keep the original release plan alive. For now, the fate of Vaa Vaathiyaar remains unclear, leaving fans and the industry watching closely.
