Actress Tina Sravya Issues Apology Over Medaram Jatara Incident

Several devotees and social media users objected to the act, questioning how a religious vow traditionally associated with children could be fulfilled using a pet animal

Young actress Tina Sravya has found herself at the centre of a controversy following her actions at the Medaram Jatara. As part of a long-standing tradition at the Sammakka-Saralamma temple, devotees offer jaggery equal to the weight of their children to fulfil vows. However, Tina Sravya weighed her pet dog and offered jaggery accordingly, which sparked widespread criticism after the video went viral.

Several devotees and social media users objected to the act, questioning how a religious vow traditionally associated with children could be fulfilled using a pet animal. Many stated that the incident hurt religious sentiments.

To prevent the matter from escalating further, Tina Sravya issued a public apology. Explaining her actions, the actress said her 12-year-old pet dog had recently undergone surgery for a tumour. She revealed that she had prayed to Sammakka for her dog’s recovery and, after it recovered as hoped, she went to the temple to fulfil her vow.

She clarified that since the prayer was made specifically for her dog, she offered jaggery equal to its weight. Tina Sravya stressed that her actions were motivated purely by devotion and love for her pet, and not by any intention to disrespect religious traditions or hurt the sentiments of devotees.

The actress concluded her statement by expressing regret if her actions caused offence and sought understanding from the public
