To which Bachchan said, \"It has been 42 years since my marriage and for 42 years I've been singing only...\" Jaya joined the banter and said, \"He has been singing for 42 years and I have been dancing!\"
\"They say you have to reinvent yourself. So Dharam Ji has reinvested himself....I have a wish. You write such good sher-o-shayari, so you write and I want to sing. Even Amit ji will sing...,\" Hema said at the 'Dream Girl' song launch.
Hema said she wanted to sing a song with Bachchan, and written by Dharmendra.
Dharmendra recited a poem written by him and congratulated Hema on the launch.
Bachchan said that looking at Malini's ability to juggle many things, he was compelled to try a few things himself. \"Jaya was saying Hema ji works so much, we don't work at all. She is in politics, goes to the Parliament, does dance, now she's singing too... We don't do anything. I want to assure you after today, even we will do something like this,\" Amitabh said.
\"I was excited to sing those two Bengali songs, which I had recorded for Kishor-da long back... I've been a dancer, an actress but today I can't believe as a singer I am in front of you, which I never thought of,\" Malini said
Hema's album features her duet \"Aji suniye to zara, kya hai manjra\" with Supriyo, apart from two Bengali songs which she had originally recorded for the legendary Kishor Kumar.
The album titled 'Dream Girl' has been composed by Babul Supriyo and features his duet with Hema.
\"So many people associated from the same film sharing a stage, I think it has happened after many years. Dharam ji and Hema ji stay behind my house. If I shout, my voice reaches his place. If I walk two steps from my house, I'll reach her place. But we don't get to meet like this. I am glad Hema ji organised this event so we all got to meet each other,\" Amitabh said at the song launch.
Amitabh Bachchan said it was a rare occasion the the 'Sholay' cast reunited.
The only time the veteran stars Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra and Hema Malini have shared screen space was in 1975 in Ramesh Sippy's blockbuster 'Sholay'.
Amitabh and wife Jaya came together to lend their support to Dharmendra and Hema Malini, at her music album launch.
\"He is the engine of the industry, everyone is trailing him... He never gets tired... Today he did this, tomorrow he will do that and day after something else. May God give him a long life. He is like my younger brother. Whatever he does will be a lesson for all of us,\" the 80-year-old Dharmendra said about Bachchan.
Amitabh and Dharmendra, whose on-screen bromance in films like Sholay' and Chupke Chupke' endeared them to the audience, have kept their friendship alive even though they don't get to share screen space now.
Always vocal about his admiration for megastar Amitabh Bachchan, veteran actor Dharmendra called his good friend the engine' of Hindi film industry.
