NIFT Jodhpur Emerges As A Leading Hub For Fashion, Design And Innovation
NIFT Jodhpur is expanding its footprint in fashion and design through innovation, traditional crafts, industry projects and international opportunities for students.

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Jodhpur, has emerged as a prominent centre for fashion, design and innovation, with the institute successfully taking Rajasthan’s traditional artistic heritage to national and international platforms.
The institute has made significant strides in design innovation, with two faculty members securing patents in the field. Students, meanwhile, have been encouraged to experiment with innovative concepts while drawing inspiration from Rajasthan’s rich handicraft and cultural traditions.
NIFT Jodhpur has also undertaken several high-profile design projects. Among them are the Vijayasthambha design at Chandragiri Fort, the Marshal’s uniform, and designs associated with the new Parliament, besides the match-day jersey, impact-day jersey and kits for the Rajasthan Royals during the IPL 2025 season.
The institute has also conducted several other projects and training programmes.
Press Information Bureau Vijayawada branch arranged a five day media tour to Rajasthan. As a part of it, media personnel visited NIFT Jodhpur branch.
For the first time at NIFT Jodhpur, faculty and staff outbound programmes were introduced. Design collection fashion shows and graduation ceremonies have also been organised regularly since 2022, enhancing the institute’s profile and providing students with greater exposure to the fashion industry.
The institute has witnessed a significant improvement in campus facilities, student experience and its overall image under the leadership of Director G Harisankar Prasad, who assumed charge in 2021. Prasad was presented with the Exemplary Governance and Leadership Award at the 46th World Management Congress held at the India International Centre in New Delhi.
NIFT Jodhpur has also gained recognition in national rankings, featuring among the country’s leading fashion institutions. The campus stood ninth in the latest survey of fashion institutes in the country, marking a significant achievement for the relatively young campus.
Speaking about the institute’s growth, Prasad said Rajasthan’s handicraft traditions have become increasingly popular and that faculty members and staff have been working with dedication to encourage students to develop new and creative ideas.
Two NIFT Jodhpur students have also been selected for opportunities at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, reflecting the growing international exposure available to students at the campus.
Nearly 750 students are currently pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at NIFT Jodhpur. Among the popular courses is Fashion Design Communication, which combines design, storytelling, creativity, communication skills and photography. The programme has attracted students because of the wide range of career opportunities available in the field.
The campus has also undergone a major infrastructure expansion. Three new hostels have been constructed in recent years, making NIFT Jodhpur a fully residential campus with accommodation available for all students.
NIFT Jodhpur began its journey in 2010 from a temporary campus at Sojati Gate. After completing 15 academic years, the institute shifted its operations to its permanent campus at Karwar in July 2015. Spread across 20 acres, the campus has since evolved into a fully equipped institution with a growing focus on design education, innovation, industry exposure and international opportunities.
With its emphasis on Rajasthan’s traditional crafts, contemporary design, industry collaborations and global exposure, NIFT Jodhpur is steadily strengthening its position as an important destination for fashion and design education in the country.
