Osmania University to get two new hostels equipped with enhanced facilities

HYDERABAD: The Telangana government's tribal welfare department has approved a grant of ₹20 crores for the construction of two new hostels on campus, one for boys and one for girls. Each hostel will accommodate about 100 students and will have enhanced facilities.

Osmania University Vice Chancellor Prof. D. Ravinder told Deccan Chronicle on Tuesday that there was a critical need for the construction of hostels due to the increasing number of students enrolling in various courses at the university.

The VC also informed that the doctors and engineers will be eligible for PG courses in sciences in the future and that MCom would be offered for graduates from any stream from the coming academic year. Prof. Ravinder stated that 70 courses will be offered from this year through distance education.

Further, the university entered into a memorandum of understanding (OU) with Coal India Limited (CIL) to establish CIL Chair Professor at the department of mining engineering, University College of Engineering.

As part of the MoU, which was signed in the presence of CIL CMD Pramod Agarwal and Prof. Ravinder, CIL will release ₹3 crores as a one-time grant for the overall development and establishment of the CIL Chair.

“The MoU will be a win-win situation for the university and CIL. The tie-up will have a multiplier effect and synergistic impact on all the stakeholders. Our association with this university makes us happy as this is one of the top universities in the country,” said Agarwal. “

These partnerships will enhance the quality of education and students’ exposure,” said P. Laxminarayana, OU Registrar.
