UoH only TS varsity among world's top universities

HYDERABAD: In its newest acknowledgement, University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been named as one of the world’s top universities. This is a prominent feature of the 20th edition of QS World University Rankings, released by global higher education analyst QS Quacquarelli Symonds on Wednesday.

UoH ranked between 801 and 850 on the global platform while it is at No. 23 among Indian varsities. QS World University Rankings 2024 featured 1499 institutions across 104 locations, including 45 in India, which is the country’s best ever showing in 20 years.

Prof. B.J. Rao, vice-chancellor, UoH, added that the university is ranked 372 in the world as per the ‘Citations per Faculty’ indicator.

"However, our overall ranking needs to be improved, which is linked to global perception and visibility," he said.

In celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the ranking and to reflect the growth in data availability and changing priorities of students and the society in the last two decades, QS implemented the largest methodological enhancement since its inception, introducing three new metrics: sustainability, employment outcomes and international research network, and adjusting the weighting of some existing indicators like academic and employer reputations and the faculty-student ratio.
The results account for the distribution and performance of 17.5 million academic papers published between 2017 and 2021 and the 141.6 million citations received by those papers. They also include expert opinions of over 1,44,000 faculty and over 98,000 employers from around the world.
