BIE releases academic calendar; reopening of junior colleges on June 1

HYDERABAD: The Board of Intermediate Education has released the annual calendar for the academic year 2023-24 that will see the reopening of all junior colleges on June 1 after closure for the summer vacation from April 29 to May 31 across AP.

BIE secretary MV Seshagiri Rao said in a statement here on Friday that the principals of government junior colleges and managements of private and unaided junior colleges would follow the annual calendar strictly. It warned action against the erring managements and dis-affiliation in case they deviate from the annual calendar stipulations.

All the institutions would observe the vacation as also ensure public holiday on all Sundays and second Saturdays.

Admissions would be done as per the schedule. No college should indulge in undue canvassing to force/convince/attract students and avoid unhealthy competition among the colleges. They should avoid advertisements through hoardings, pamphlets, wall writings and electronic/print media.

Principals of the unaided junior colleges should not offer any guarantee in advance, vis-a-vis performance or success of students in public examinations as an inducement for admissions. It would cause violation of Rule 7 of the AP Public Examinations (Prevention of Malpractices and Unfair Means) Rules, 1997.

As per the annual calendar for both the first and second-year intermediate course in general and vocational courses, unit-1 will be held from July 26 to 28; unit-II from August 24 to 26; quarterly exams from September 16 to 23 and unit-III from October 16 to 18. Darasa holidays are from October 19 to 25 and colleges will reopen on October 26.

Unit-IV would be held from November 23 to 25. Half-yearly exams are from December 18 to 23.

Sankranti holidays are from January 11 to 17, 2024 and the colleges will reopen on January 18. Pre-final exams are to be held from January 19 to 25; practical exams for IPE, 2024, from the second week of February; theory exams from the first week of March.

The last working day for the academic year is March 28. The summer vacation is from March 29 to May 31 and the advance-supplementary exams would be held in the last week of May. The colleges will reopen for the academic year 2024-25 on June 1, 2024.

The annual academic calendar is prepared for 302 days with 227 working days and 75 vacation/holidays.
