Tech students disappointed over UCEK workshops

KAKINADA: Students of different colleges affiliated with Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (JNTUK) say they are disappointed with the workshops conducted by the University College of Engineering Kakinada (UCEK) on March 25 and 26. Some students said they found the workshops useful.

Various departments like CSE, civil, petroleum and chemical engineering in the college conducted workshops on data sciences, ethical hacking, Amazon web series and blockchain. The organisers collected ₹1500 each for AWS and ₹1350 each for the other courses.

Initially, the offer was that they would be given course certificates by the famous IIT Mumbai. Nearly 560 students have been enrolled in the workshops. But sections of them are disappointed that the workshops have not been conducted as per their expectations.

A college student from North Andhra told Deccan Chronicle that many students participated in the workshops, in particular on Data Sciences, the most- popular at present, with the aim of using the certificate in future. But, the course conductors taught them the Python programme which the students had studied in the third semester. Python course is basic knowledge for Data Sciences, the students said.

According to sources, the teachers were to conduct the courses for eight hours each. But, on Sunday, many dis-enthused students skipped the workshop and went to Kakinada beach.

However, students at the workshops on civil engineering and petroleum engineering expressed satisfaction that these were helpful to them. The students who participated in the fests also enjoyed the cultural programmes and different games including playing cards, Gundata, a gambling game etc.
