CLAT 2024 to be held on December 3

HYDERABAD: The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2024 shall be conducted on December 3, 2023 (Sunday). This was decided during the executive committee and governing body of the Consortium of National Law Universities meeting at the National Law Institute University, Bhopal, on May 20.

Further details regarding the syllabus, application and counselling process will be released separately, soon, an official statement said.

The CLAT exam is for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate law courses in 22 national law universities (NLUs) across the country. The exams will be conducted offline, for admissions to the 5-year integrated B.A., LL.B (Hons) and LL.M programmes. Further details will be available at the official website of the consortium - consortiumofnlus.ac.in.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court recently asked the Consortium of NLUs, why it cannot conduct the CLAT in Hindi when the entrance examinations medical and engineering colleges are held in Hindi along with English.

Counsel representing the NLUs had said that a committee has been constituted to look into the issue and would take a call on the same in its meeting.

The Bench directed the consortium to file its response in four weeks and the case will now be considered on July 7.

The PIL was filed by a Delhi University student who stated that because CLAT is conducted only in English, it causes ‘gross injustice to students from non-English medium’.
