10,000 Anganwadis to be upgraded into foundation schools: Jagan

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has said that over 10,000 Anganwadis are being upgraded to foundation schools in the state and the remaining 45,000 Anganwadis too would be upgraded on a priority basis.

During a review meeting on the women and child welfare department held here on Thursday, the CM asked the officials to gather information from village secretariats on the existing facilities in Anganwadi centres and those that are yet to be provided.

The CM took stock of the progress of the ongoing development works in Anganwadi centres as part of the Nadu-Nedu programme.

Mentioning that currently works are being expedited in over 10,000 Anganwadis by upgrading them to foundation schools, the Chief Minister asked the officials to expedite the upgradation works in the remaining 45,000 Anganwadis on a priority basis.

Advising the officials to prepare and submit a report on the works to be undertaken in each Anganwadi centre, Jagan Mohan Reddy asked them to also gather the details of the facilities such as ceiling fans, lights, furniture and toilets.

He said focus should be laid by the officials on keeping devices for monitoring the growth of children in Anganwadis, besides directing them to immediately fill up the vacant posts of Anganwadi workers and Anganwadi helpers.

“Officials should regularly monitor the Anganwadis and keep a vigil on their supervisors to improve the conditions there,” he said.

The CM asked the senior officials to fill the vacant posts in the women and child welfare department and formulate an effective Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) regarding the Sampoorna Poshana scheme implementation on par with the distribution of pensions being done in the state in an efficient manner.

Minister Ushasri Charan, Principal Secretary Ravichandra, finance secretary Satyanarayana, school education commissioner Bhaskar, civil supplies MD Veerapandian, dairy development cooperative federation MD Ahmed Babu, women and department director Vijaya Suneetha were among those present.
