Engineering graduates seek rescheduling of Tangedco exam

The examination date was notified by Tangedco on December 28, 2015.

Chennai: Engineering graduates who had applied for assistant engineer’s post in Tangedco have urged the department to reschedule the competitive entrance examination to be held on January 31 as it clashes with the Staff Selection Commission’s junior engineer examination and Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) to be held on the same date.

Tangedco, for the first time, has proposed to conduct a competitive written examination on January 31 for selection to 375 posts of AEs in electrical, civil and mechanical cadres. The examination date was notified by Tangedco on December 28, 2015.

An engineering graduate who had applied for the AE post in Tangedco said he had applied for SSC examination last year, but it was postponed twice due to
Chennai flood and rescheduled to January 31. “But now Tangedco also have scheduled the examination on the same date. I don’t know what to do,” he said, demanding that Tangedco reschedule the date to allow aspiring engineering graduates to appear for SSC as well.

The SSC notified the JE examination on July 11 last year and initially fixed the date of examination on December 6.

Later, due to the unprecedented flood in Chennai, the examination was postponed to December 20 and again to January 31.

The GATE for engineering graduates for admission to post graduate courses will be held from January 30 to February 7. “The GATE score assumes more importance since the same is used by some PSUs, including Navaratna companies for recruitment also,” said B. Raj Kumar, general secretary of Tamil Nadu Electricity Engineers’ Forum in a representation to the Tangedco’s Chairman and Managing director.

“The Tangedco board is conducting such written examination once in a blue moon. Unfortunately, the proposed examination date clashes with the two important exams. We are concerned with the plight of the engineering graduates who are eagerly awaiting their opportunity to participate in all these exams,” he said. When contacted, a senior Tangedco official said the exams would be held as per schedule.

“We want only the interested candidates to appear for Tangedco’s examination,” the official said.
