Parent volunteers to guide girl students of Mahbubia Government Girls School

HYDERABAD: Empowering girl students is the motive of the mother of a Class 5 student of Mahbubia Government Girls School, who sticks around after dropping her daughter off to help other students, as well as school staff, fill bus pass forms, on a voluntary basis.

Asiya Begum, the Good Samaritan, said: “I have an MA in hospitality management and I like helping people around me. I come here (to the school) for my daughter, and feel that all students are my daughters. Volunteering to help others keeps me occupied as well.”

She said: “Girls should get an education through which they are empowered.”

Asiya, 45, and her daughter make an 18-kilometre trip from Balapur to Gunfoundry, travelling in buses, first to Koti and from there to Nizam College bus stop.

Asiya said she previously worked in the hospitality wing of a hospital in Riyadh of Saudi Arabia and returned to Hyderabad with her family during the Covid-19 lockdown. She said she admitted her daughter to this school due to its heritage and track record of producing prominent personalities.
