School reopening: AP preparing JVK kits for students

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has started dispatch of Jagananna Vidya Kanuka kits that would be distributed to students when schools reopen after the summer holidays. All the kits would reach district centres before May 31. While the requirement is for 3,54,61,730 textbooks and workbooks, some 1,67,52,446 books have been dispatched.

School education principal secretary Praveen Prakash said chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy aimed at providing a hassle-free environment to students by providing all their study requirements at the start of the school year itself. The kits have been sent to the district godowns and mandal JVK stock points.

As on May 4, as many as 1,67,52,446 textbooks and workbooks were printed. “Ready for dispatch are 23,16,786 kits. More textbooks and workbooks are under the printing process. The paper made available to printers would suffice for 59,08,903 kits. The total textbooks printed till now (which have been supplied to districts, or are ready for dispatch or under printing process with available papers) were 2,49,78,135. This would help meet 70.43 per cent of the total requirement, the official said.

He said the present set of kits that are getting readied would be available in the districts by May 14. The remaining books to be printed and supplied number 1,04,83,595. All these books will be printed and supplied to
the districts by May 31.

Regarding uniforms for students, the official said the total requirement is of 39,95,992 sets, of which the sets supplied to the Mandal JVK stock points as on May were 3,87,393, the sets under transition (dispatch) are 4,66,439 and the sets available with vendor are 5,02,545.

“The sets that are under transition (dispatched) now will be available in the districts by May 13. The total uniform sets available (already supplied, dispatched and with the vendors) were 18,24,286 -- forming 45.65 per cent of the total requirements of uniform sets.”

The remaining sets to be supplied are 21,71,706. The current production capacity is 1 lakh sets per day. The expected date of the completion of supply is May 26. All sets will be reaching mandals before May 31.

About students bags, Praveen Prakash said the total requirement is 39,95,992, in which school bags under transition (dispatched) are 2,43,399 and school bags available with the vendors are 9,25,201. School bags that are under transition (dispatched) would be available in the districts by May 12.

He said the total school bags available now were 11,68,600, forming 29.24 per cent of the total requirement. “The remaining school bags to be supplied is 28,27,392, the current capacity of production is 1.20 lakh per day and the expected date of completion of supply is May 27. All these school bags would be supplied to the mandal point before May 31.

He said one pair of shoes and two pairs of socks would be supplied to the mandal point by May 31. Notebooks would be printed and supplied to the districts before May 31.
