BJP wants Sabitha Indra Reddy's resignation over Telugu paper leak

HYDERABAD: The BJP on Monday demanded the immediate resignation of P. Sabitha Indra Reddy as education minister, over the SSC Telugu question paper leak on the first day of the board examinations.

Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar, invoking the TSPSC question paper leaks said it was “shameful” that the government did not learn its lesson from previous instances.

“It looks like there is a ‘festival of paper leaks’ going on in Telangana. Question paper leaks have now become commonplace in Telangana. A government that cannot ensure a glitch-free Class 10 exam has no right to continue in power,” Sanjay said in a statement.

He also questioned if the managements of rich corporate educational institutions were in cahoots with the government, claiming the leaks affected students of smaller schools and government institutions.

“The Telangana government has yet again failed in preventing technology from being used for leaking question papers. The government must accept responsibility for what happened and the education minister must resign,” Sanjay said.

He said that students who are already stressed due to the changed single-paper format will be mentally affected because of the leak.

“Everyone involved in Monday’s paper leak must be identified and punished. The interests of students who wrote the exam on Monday must be protected. I urge students not to give in to undue stress and prepare for their next exams,” Sanjay said.

Senior BJP leader Dr K. Laxman joined Sanjay in demanding the education minister’s resignation. Laxman told media persons that the state government “never takes responsibility for any mistake”, citing the confusion in Intermediate results and subsequent student suicides, the TSPSC leaks and Monday’s incident.

Dr Laxman said: “The Chief Minister has no time for what is happening here, but finds times to hold public meetings in Maharashtra. The state is burning, and the future of students and the unemployed are being put at stake repeatedly, but he doesn’t even care enough to react. The education minister has not reacted either to what happened today. Every minister in the KCR cabinet is nothing more than a rubber stamp.”
