Hyderabad race course to be shifted to a new place, says KCR

The CM said the government would deal with an iron hand against terrorism, extremism and anti-social elements.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhkar Rao also disclosed that the Chanchalguda Central Jail located in the heart of the city would be shifted adjacent to the Cherlapally Jail where 170 acres of government land is available.

The Hyderabad race course would also be moved to a new place.
“We can utilise these prime lands for educational and other purpo-ses,” Mr Rao said, add-ing foundation stones for the same would also be laid after civic polls.

He was speaking at an e-poll campaign (press conference) organised by TRS in connection with GHMC polls at Telangana Bhavan.

To another question, he said twin towers wo-uld also be constructed in the premises of Osm-ania General Hospital to provide better medic-are to people in place of the age old structures.

He was reacting to a question as to why he backtracked on the pro-mise to clean Hussainsagar Lake, shifting of the Secretariat, OGH, Chanchalguda Jail and Race course.

Stating that Austria’s help will be taken for developmental works in Hyderabad including cleaning of Hussainsagar Lake, he said about Rs 30,000 crore was required for remodelling of drainage system in the twin cities.

The government sought Rs 20,000 crore from BRICS for drinking water, drainage and other works.

“Even if we win, it will take three to four years to improve the storm water drain system which has crumbled and encroached upon over the years. Even if we win GHMC polls, we cannot do anything overnight,” he said.

Stating drinking water, uninterrupted power supply, good drainage system, security of people, corruption free GHMC, easing traffic congestion etc was top priority of the TRS, he said the government has identified 1,000 acres of land for construction of one lakh double bedroom houses for the poor.

“We will construct houses if the residents give their lands or construct on the city outskirts. We will notify whom to give the applications after the polls. Officials will oversee allotment and there will be no political interference," he added.

To another query, Mr Rao said the government has taken steps to resume 60,000 to 70,000 acres of land encroached around Hyderabad through a new Act and bring in a stringent Act to curb illegal call money lending.

He also said the government would deal with an iron hand against terrorism, extremism and anti-social elements.
