Huge explosion shatters house in Vijayawada, owner injured

The cylinder in the kitchen was intact and it was brought out by other members of the family to avoid major mishap.

Vijayawada: In a suspected bomb blast, an unidentified object caused huge explosions in the house of a businessman at Vijaynagar Colony of Patamata in Vijayawada on Friday morning.

At around 6am, people at the colony heard a huge sound, suspecting a bomb blast. The incident occurred in the main hall of house of iron merchant Reddy Rangaswamy. The explosion left house badly damaged which is on the first floor. Rangaswamy who was severely injuried in the blast was rushed to hospital. Three others in the neighborhood also sustained minor injuries as the debris hit them. Parts of the walls, windows were blown away by the explosion.

Police teams who inspected the spot are collecting all the evidences to find source of the explosion. The cylinder in the kitchen was intact and it was brought out by other members of the family to avoid major mishap.

It is learnt that Rangaswamy also had sold fireworks and crackers during Diwali last year and had stored the leftover fireworks at his house. Police suspect the fireworks might have caused the blast. There is also suspicion over blast of gelatin sticks which were also traded by Rangaswamy in the past. Further investigations are on.
