Ernavur mourns death of daughter Monisha
Ernavur: A pall of gloom descended on Ernavur located north of Chennai, where Monisha’s body was handed over to parents after re-post mortem.
Neighbors, friends and family members were seen fighting tears consoling Monisha’s family and took turns to vent out their anger against SVS College and the district authorities.
Students who thronged from Villupuram to attend Monisha’s funeral shared their grievances and spoke about need for justice. Heavy deployment of police was seen in the usually silent Ernavur.
“I am unable to sleep and yet to come out of the trauma of seeing my friends dead. I saw Monisha with head injuries, blood droplets dripped from her
head,” recalled Udhayashri, roommate of Monisha.
“There are 21 students in our class including seven women and all our parents are now in debt due to the frequent collection of fees for hostel, food, and accommodation. Every month our parents had no other option other than taking loans,” said Nishanthi, another classmate.
Her parents have so far spent Rs 6 lakh for educating her in this college. Hostel facilities and food were pathetic despite paying Rs 12,000 monthly for food and accommodation.
“My sympathies are for my tenant M.K. Thamizharasu. He struggled to bring up his two daughters Monisha and Rohini,” said K. Ramaiyan, who has rented his house for Monisha’s family. Only after Vikravandi MLA Ramamurthy intervened the issue was brought to the limelight, he added.
