Chennai: A sessions court on Thursday convicted and sentenced 21 then law college students involved in the November 2008 group clash in which three sustained grievous injuries on the premises of Dr Ambedkar law college to three years of rigorous imprisonment.
The 17th additional sessions judge, Komathinayagam, found Bharathikannan and Arumugham, injured in the clash and who filed the first complaint, guilty for offences under section 324 IPC (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and sentenced them to undergo three-year RI, besides imposing a fine of Rs 10,000 each on them.
The judge also found Chithiraiselvan, Manimaran and 17 others guilty for offences under section 148 IPC (Rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 324 IPC and sentenced them to undergo three-year RI, besides imposing a fine of Rs 15,000 each on them.
The judge acquitted advocate Rajinikanth and BSP state leader Armstrong and 20 other law college students in the case.
