Tiruchy: Six killed, 30 hurt in four road mishaps
Tiruchy: At least six persons including two women were killed and 30 others injured in four different road accidents in Tiruchy, Karur and Perambalur districts of central Tamil Nadu since Tuesday night.
Police here said three persons of a family, including two women were killed on the spot and four others injured when a car in which they were travelling collided with a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus at Ayyampalayam on the Tiruchy-Salem highway near here on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Alex vijay (36) his Mother Infanta Elizabeth Rani (56) and his grandmother Mrs Rani Rajan (74) hailing from Palakarai area.
They were on their way to Thottiam for a condolence meet when the mishap occurred.
Of the injured, three were bus passengers, besides the driver, they were and were treated as out patients at Government hospital Musiri.
The Tiruchy collector K S Palanisamy, on his way to Thottiam visited the accident spot and asked the officials to clear the traffic and also attend to the injured.
Police removed the bodies of the deceased to Annal Gandhi memorial Government hospital Tiruchy, police added.
In another accident, three persons including a 10-year-old boy were killed and seven others injured when a mini lorry in which they were travelling collided with a sand-laden truck at Panchamadevi Poonthottam, near Karur on Wednesday.
The deceased were on their way to Nerur when the accident occurred.
While Janarthanan (10) and Lakshmanan (40) were killed on the spot, Dinesh succumbed to his injuries on his way to Annal Gandhi memorial Government hospital here, police said. The injured were admitted to a Karur private hospital.
In the third accident, four activists of the ‘People’s Welfare Front (PWF)’ were injured when a car in which they were travelling capsized after hitting the road median near V Kalathur on the Tiruchy-Chennai national highways bypass road near Perambalur on Wednesday.
The occupants of the car, hailing from Chennai, were returning home after attending the PWF’s conference at Madurai when the accident occurred.
The injured included Murugasen ((44), Thangakumar (43) and Thomas (40) and were admitted to the Government headquarters hospital at Perambalur.
In the fourth accident, 15 persons were injured when a lorry rammed the van they were travelling in at Murugapettai near here on Tiruchy-Karur NH on Tuesday night.
The van occupants, all hailing from Dharapuram, were returning home after completing their pilgrimage at Velankanni when the accident occurred.
