Karimnagar will soon achieve loos target
KARIMNAGAR: Karimnagar will soon become the first district to achieve 100 per cent of Individual Household Latrines scheme in Telangana and of course in India, putting an end to open defecation.
Already, both Sircilla and Vemulawada constituencies created a record of sorts by registering cent percent construction of the IHHLs. Many other segments are set to reach the milestone in the very short future.
As many as 1,41,929 toilets were sanctioned to 13 Assembly constituencies of the district under the under Swachh Bharat Mission.
The estimated cost of the toilets is assessed to be '169.35 crore, according to information provided by authorities of Rural Water Scheme (RWS).
Accordingly, programmes are being held for creating awareness among public representatives and authorities of panchayat raj, Rural Water Supply, Agriculture and Roads and Buildings departments.
Sanitation committees were formed in every village. Both the officials, elected representatives and the committees are striving hard to meet deadlines.
Surveys were carried out to identity the households which do not have toilets at all.
For instance, a total of 13,346 toilets were erected in Sircilla segment within a month, from September 1 to October 1.
Information Technology minister and Sircilla legislator K. Taraka Rama Rao was determined to set an example to the country by achieving the feat. He involved every section of the society to accomplish this task.
Vemulawada Assembly constituency joined the bandwagon on December 19, by recording 100 per cent IHHLs.
“Likewise, Peddapalli segment will shortly see 100 per cent of toilets. By drawing inspiration from this achievement, we are moving forward to accomplish the mission in the remaining constituencies. We will certainly achieve 100 per cent IHHLs in all segments,” collector Neetu Prasad exuded confidence.
However, Huzurabad Assembly constituency, represented by finance and civil minister Etela Rajender and Manthani segment is remarkably trailing in implementation of the scheme.
