GHMC polls: Praja Darbar' grills candidates

Sitting corporator Jitendernath, had a tough time convincing the residents whom he had represented to what he did for them.

Hyderabad: The first-ever Praja Darbar by residents in this election season was held at Ward 133 Macha Bolaram, where four candidates — three of them from political parties and one Independent — were grilled by the residents as to what they could expect from the GHMC hopefuls. The session lasted two hours.

Chitti Babu from TDP, Jitendernath from TRS, Sri Surya Kiran of Congress, rebel TRS Manne Srinivas as independent answered questions. Sitting corporator Jitendernath, now with TRS, had a tough time convincing the residents whom he had represented as corporator as to what he did for them.

His in actions like not removing encroachments, not attending to people’s complaints and under-spending of the budget allocation to the ward came in for harsh criticism.

Greater Alwal Allied Service Association (GAASA), a federation of RWAs under GHMC Alwal, emphasised that GHMC had collected Rs 5,100 crore for the last 5 years.

It meant each ward within Alwal should have got Rs 7 crore worth of works completed per year. However, as per GHMC website, the ward got an average of only Rs 1.10 crore per ward for 5 years. That meant Rs 22 lakh per year.

GAASA members said they paid Rs 6 crore per year as taxes but the money went to Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills.
