Hyderabad: Flash strike over split of doctors hits Gandhi Hospital

The out-patient slips were not being issued and all the doctors had gathered in one room and were talking about the list.

Hyderabad: Over 800 patients who came to the out-patient department of Gandhi Hospital from 8.30 am to 11.30 am were asked to go as the government doctors shut down the out-patient department.

The flash strike was due to the AP Re-Organisation list that was submitted and angry doctors refused to attend to out-patient department.

Telangana Joint Action Committee formed on Wednesday with doctors from 10 districts said they will not attend to out-patient and patients in the government hospitals of Telangana from Thursday onwards.

A senior nurse said, “The out-patient slips were not being issued and all the doctors had gathered in one room and were talking about the list. Many patients waited till 1 pm hoping that the doctors would attend to them but in vain.”

Ramesh Reddy who came from Medak said, “The doctor had given me today’s date now I have to wait for a week for the second check-up. I spent Rs 50 to come and have to go without the check-up. I have also lost a day’s daily wage.”

In Osmania General Hospital, the doctors were alerted only after 12 noon and by then the out-patient department check-ups were done.

The doctors have warned that they will continue with their dharna outside the office of the director of health and medical education.

Health chief blamed for split list

Over 100 doctors gheraoed the director of health and medical education Dr M. Ramani from 11 am to 7 pm at her office in Koti.

They blamed Dr Ramani for the list and wanted to know how the list could be submitted to Kamalnathan without verifying details.

Dr P. Naik of Osmania General Hospital said, "Doctors have come from all districts to Hyderabad after seeing the list and are very upset with the allocation. The present list must be cancelled and a new list issued. We want the director to resign."
