Adi case: Karnataka High Court pulls up AG for keeping away

Court adjourned the petition filed by Justice Subash B Adi to February 5, after a joint request was made by the advocates for the parties.

BENGALURU: Surprised by the action of Advocate General Madhusudhan R. Naik, who remained unavailable on Wednesday in the case relating to Justice Subhash B. Adi challenging the motion adopted against him by the Assembly for his ouster as Upa Lokayukta, the Karnataka High Court expressed its displeasure against him.

“This case is listed for today (Jan 27), only on the asking of advocate general. During the last occasion, he submitted to this court that the case was rather urgent, therefore it had to be heard and decided by this court on Wednesday. But, despite the urgency pleaded by him on the last occasion, today (Jan 27) the court is informed that the advocate general is unavailable, as he is appearing before the Madras High Court,” the court observed. It is certainly a surprising state of affairs that despite urgency pleaded by the learned advocate general, the advocate general has decided to appear before the Madras High Court, instead of arguing the case today (Jan 27) before this court, the court added.

Justice Raghavendra S Chauhan, who was hearing the case, further said in his order that in case the advocate general wanted an adjournment, it was his duty to inform the bench that the case should be adjourned for the day. The court adjourned the petition filed by Justice Subash B Adi to February 5, after a joint request was made by the advocates for the parties.
