Telangana government signals end to rift over staff

Telangana power utilities are willing to go for an out of court settlement.

Hyderabad: It appears that the TS government has softened its stand on the issue of 1.253 employees of power utilities relieved by it on the basis of nativity, going by the offer given by TS officials to their counterparts from AP. Sources told this correspondent that the TS power utilities are willing to go for an “out of court settlement” in the case of 1,253 employees relieved by the TS government.
While the JAC set up by the employees has move the HC, the AP government has approached the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court has said that it will look into the case only after it is disposed of by the High Court. The case is posted for hearing on February 1 in the High Court. Meanwhile, TS and AP officials are trying to work out an amicable solution. “If the issue can be solved by discussing and if we can reach to a respectable solution, what else would be better? TS power utilities are willing to consider taking back some of the relieved employees wherein the spouse is working in TS or there could be medical cases. If AP has other proposals, it can always place it before us,” a senior official in TS power utilities said.

Officials of both the States admit that it has to be an amicable settlement as employees have to work with the State government and as such they cannot be thrusted on any State. Though the officials of Genco, Transco and Discoms from TS and AP met on January 22, the meeting could not come to a amicable solution. The officials will meet again on Wednesday.

The fate of not only the 1,253 employees but 400 other TS employees working in AP power sector too will be decided. A senior official from AP power utilities said nativity cannot be taken as the basis for deciding division and distribution of employees in power sector. “We will place our point of view in the meeting. Ultimately, everyone wants the employees to benefit and allow them to work at the place of their choice,” said AP government official.
