Power generation resumes in thermal station
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation has resumed generation in a 110 mw unit of the Ennore thermal power station after DC reported the trade unions proposed demonstration on Wednesday, condemning suspension of generation in all units.
According to trade union sources in ETPS, the 110-mw unit III resumed generation on Monday and is supplying 45 mw to the grid.
All the trade unions except the AIADMK affiliated union had planned for a demonstration after the three out of the four units which are available for generation, were kept on standby, citing low demand.
Trade union sources also say that repairs are not being carried on, some units are permanently shut down due to frequent outages, some others kept on standby, raising apprehensions that the Tangedco management is moving towards permanently shutting down the plant.”
However, a senior Tangedco official said that the decision to keep the thermal units on standby were taken by the load despatch centre as per the power demand.
“There is no plan to shut down the station permanently. The plant which overserved its lifetime, will be decommissioned after the commissioning of the 660 mw ETPS expansion plant. Another 660 mw unit will replace it,” the official said.
