People Welfare Front new beginning for alternative politics, says Sitaram Yechury
Madurai: Projecting the People Welfare Front (PWF) as the only alternative to the major Dravidian parties in Tamil Nadu, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said the front also paved the way for alternative in national politics.
In a well attended PWF political awakening conference in Madurai on Tuesday that saw all senior leaders of CPM, CPI, VCK and MDMK raise their hand together in expression of their solidarity to put an end to the rule of Dravidian parties in the state.
Unlike allied political parties preparing a Common Minimum Programme after they win the election, the front set a new beginning in a historical city with a CMP to put an end to corruption and anti-people policies both in the state and national level, said Yechury.
“The front will work to realise the dreams of B R Ambedkar as he declared in Indian constitution assuring all the citizens justice, equality and liberty,” he said.
Condemning the BJP government’s anti-Dalit ideology, Yechury said that the front would also put an end to divisive forces in the country.
The people of Tamil are making progress in the foreign countries particular in IT sector in Silicon Valley, but in their own state they were not able to prosper due corrupt rule by Dravidian parties, he pointed out.
The VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan said that the front would bring in a political change that Tamil Nadu had witnessed under the leadership of Annadurai in 1967.
“When Annadurai fought the election in 1967, he didn’t have huge vote bank, but there was overwhelming support from the people who looked for an alternative to the Congress,” he observed.
The Congress then ridiculed Annadurai when he formed a grand alliance with various political parties to bring people’s rule in Tamil Nadu, but he emerged victorious, he said adding that the PWF have set a similar beginning in 2016 to create real alternative to Dravidian parties rule in Tamil Nadu politics.
The Senior CPI leader Sudharkar, MDMK leader Vaiko, senior CPI leader R Nallakannu, CPI(M) State secretary Ramakrishnan participated in the meeting.
