Patriotic fervour permeates Chennai

Awards were given to best floats and cultural programmes held earlier in the day at Marina Beach.

CHENNAI: Governor Rosaiah on Tuesday hosted a reception at his residence Raj Bhavan where he also gave away awards to several former officials and dignitaries.

Special silver shields were given to collectors who achieved a collection of over Rs 1 crore for Armed Forces Flag Day, 2014.

Awards were given to best floats and cultural programmes held earlier in the day at Marina Beach. The first, second and third prizes were awarded to the police, information and public relations, and rural development and panchayat raj departments.

The function was followed by a colourful cultural performance by South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur. Dancing troupes from the cultural centre put up scintillating performances in dance forms of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry.

Speaker of TN Legislative Assembly P.Dhanapal, Mayor, Saidai S.Doraisamy, M.M.Rajendran, former Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Prince of Arcot Nawab Mohamed Abdul Ali were some of the dignitaries present at the occasion.
