Mysuru: The Mysuru district administration celebrated Republic Day on the lines of the Dasara torchlight parade at Bannimantap grounds, for the first time. Show jumping by mounted cops who have won medals at several national level competitions, was the highlight of the celebration.

Rudrappa who has won two gold medals, participated along with his horse Cainedance, while Somanna who has also won a gold medal at the national level, took part with his horse. All of them crossed eight levels, except for Somanna as his newly trained native horse refused to co-operate.

As many as 1,370 children from four different schools of the city performed cultural programmes after the flag hoisting by district in-charge minister Mr V. Srinivasprasad.

“As Chamundi Vihar stadium and the Oval grounds are undergoing repairs, Bannimantap ground was chosen for the R-Day parade,” an officer said.
