Bengaluru celebrates R-Day with patriotic fervour

No untoward incidents were reported from any part of the city.

Bengaluru: Despite terror threats and recent arrests, the Republic Day in the city was celebrated with gaiety and patriotic fervour. No untoward incidents were reported from any part of the city.

Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala unfurled the Tricolour at the Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw parade ground and receiving the guard of honour to mark the 67th Republic Day.

The Governor then boarded an open jeep and went around the parade ground. A military helicopter showered rose petals after the flag hoisting. Contingents from the Army, police and NCC took part in the march past. For the first time a dog squad and a contingent from Maharashtra police took part. Later, the students from city schools and colleges took part in the cultural programmes. Schools and colleges in the city also organised their own Republic Day function.

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) honoured the meritorious children of its employees with cash prizes. A number of well know golfer took part at the Republic Day Cup Golf Tournament held in Bangalore Golf Course.
New Horizon College of Engineering, renamed one of their blocks after Lt Col. Niranjan E Kumar, the NSG commando who laid down his life during the recent Pathankot terror attack.
