Chennai: PMK on Monday blamed the ruling AIADMK and DMK for increase in the number of men consuming alcohol in the state.
In a statement issued here, PMK founder Dr S. Ramadoss said that as per the national family health survey, nearly half of the men population in the age group of 15 to 49 years are consuming alcohol. The trend of more people taking to drinking has gone up after the state government taking over the retailing of liquor in the state through Tasmac, he said.
“The credit for making Tamil Nadu as a state of drunkards should go to both the AIADMK as well as DMK. Irony is both parties which always take different stands on the issues concerning the state's interest has taken a similar stand on liquor alone,” he said.
The number of people using tobacco has come down following the proactive steps taken by his son and former union health minister Dr Anbumani Ramadoss. “If PMK comes to power in 2016, the first sign by Anbumani will be to enforce prohibition in the state,” he added.
