Tiruchy: Veteran vocalist Ambujam honoured
TIRUCHY: The fourth annual one-day congregation of ‘Tiruchy Carnatic Musicians (TCM) Vaibhav 2016’ unfolded here on Sunday, commencing with ’mangalaisai (auspicious music)’ by Srirangam Sri V. Saileshan and party.
Former mayor of the Tiruchirappalli corporation Charubala R. Thondaiman inaugurated the event and presented the ‘TCM Lifetime Achievement award’ to Smt Ambujam Vedantham (veteran vocalist).
A thematic recital of ‘Thiruvarutpa’, was given by disciples of Ambujam Vedantham, while the ‘MSS 100 – a centenary tribute to M.S. Subbulakshmi’ was offered by Agasthiar Sri G. Girish and party.
Sri R.Kashyap Mahesh and others presented ‘Ode to a Nightingale - a presentation of songs that had been popularised by M.S. Subbulakshmi’ at the music festival.
The devotional group, ‘Tiruchy Carnatic Musicians’ was started on Facebook with the object of linking accomplished Carnatic musicians in the Cauvery delta and also to serve as an interactive forum. Since its inception on January 20, 2011, the group has now grown to around 450 members strong, according to
R Kashyap Mahesh of TCM.
This group has members of all ages and versatile constituents who have made outstanding contribution to the world of arts, he added.
