Madurai: Collector finishes 2nd in marathon

Participated in marathon to create awareness among everyone to enrol in the electoral roll, says K. Veera Raghava Rao, collector

MADURAI: To encourage the youths, the district collector K Veera Raghava Rao took part in a marathon organised as part of National Voters Day celebration at Madurai on Monday.

He ran for nearly four kilometers along with nearly 5,000 youth to stress the important of youth participation in the election. In fact he came second in the marathon which was completed at Race Course stadium.

"I participated in the marathon to create awareness among everyone who took part in the sport to enrol in the electoral roll and vote in the election," said Rao.

Later, when addressing students during National Voters Day celebration at American college, the collector said that to make India a strong democratic country all youths should participate in the election.

He also urges the students who haven't enrolled in the electoral roll, to approach the polling booths in their respective areas.

Rao said the district administration would conduct camps in all the city colleges to help the students for enrollment and create awareness on participating in the election.

Attending the public grievance meeting at the collectorate, Rao issued a strict order for the presence of first level officers during the grievance meeting.

He also told the officials that henceforth he would collect the petitions from the public upto 3 pm.
