Hyderabad: Depressed with her parents not building a toilet at home, a 16-year-girl committed suicide by immolating herself in Nalgonda. Police said K. Rekha was asking her parents to build a toilet at home for six months but they were unable to pay for it.
She broached the topic even on Monday with her parents. Her father apparently assured her that he would build the toilet after he gets money, police said.
“After both her parents left to work, she poured kerosene and set herself ablaze and died.” said Gundala sub-inspector Raju.
Police said Rekha, a native of Gundala in Nalgonda district, was studying SSC at the local government high school. Her parents work as agricultural labour in the same village. She had two siblings, a younger brother and sister.
Based on a complaint from her father, police registered a case and handed over the body to her family after the postmortem.
