Bengaluru: Villagers near garbage processing plant protest

They alleged that health issues have increased after the plants were inaugurated and the stench reaches up to 5 km.

Bengaluru: Some of the villagers on Doddaballapur Road and nearby areas protested at the Kannahalli-Seegehalli garbage processing plants on Monday. The villagers, who have been staging demonstrations against the plants, demanded that BBMP officials visit and assure them that the plants would be shut.

They alleged that health issues have increased after the plants were inaugurated and the stench reaches up to 5 km.

But BBMP sources shrugged off allegations of health issues and maintained that the real estate lobby was creating the problems. “Layout developers are scared that there will be no buyers and hatching a plot to get the plants shutdown. Local leaders are hand-in-glove with this mafia. We are scientifically processing the garbage and all measures are being taken to ensure the villagers’ safety,” a BBMP official said
