Karnataka: Protestants demand fair deal from government, Congress
Bengaluru: The All India Christian Democratic Front (AICDF) has demanded fair representation for Protestant Christians in the Congress party as well as in the committees formed by the state government.
An AICDF delegation led by its chairman K. Samuel met All-India Congress Committee general secretary, Digvijay Singh and said that Protestant Christians had been neglected in the Congress party. Mr Samuel said that among Christians, Protestants constitute 60 per cent in Karnataka whereas Roman Catholics form 40 per cent. However, almost all posts reserved for Christians in the Congress are given to Catholics alone.
Therefore, the Congress party needs to re-draw its strategy correctly by giving a fair share to Protestants too, Mr. Samuel said.
Lauding Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah’s decision to allocate Rs 100 crore for the development of the Christian community, Mr Samuel demanded that the Chief Minister constitute a committee to monitor the utilisation of funds with Protestants given representation in this committee too.
