Bengaluru: Cops on their toes, R-D Parade venue turns into fortress
Bengaluru: Ahead of Republic Day celebrations on Tuesday, the city police have made elaborate security arrangements near the venue Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw Parade Ground, following a high alert in the state.
The police said the celebrations will begin at 9 am, but the invitees and public should reach the venue an hour before. City police Commissioner N.S. Megharikh said, “We’ve installed 50 CCTV cameras inside and outside the parade ground and will keep an eye on the public movement.” Governor Vajubhai Vala will participate in the event.
Tight security
As many as 1,500 policemen, including nine DCPs, 16 ACPs, 48 police inspectors, 101 SIs, 13 women SIs, 77 ASIs, 182 head constables, 459 constables, 99 women constables, 152 officials in plainclothes, six platoons of Karnataka State Reserved police, a platoon of Maharashtra armed force, two teams of Rapid Action Force, the new Garuda force, mine detection squad of army and dog squads will keep vigil over the area.
Items prohibited
Due to security reasons invitees and members of the public attending the parade are requested not to bring mobile phones, helmets, cameras, radio, umbrella and any other equipment to the parade ground. Those carrying such articles will not be allowed to enter the venue.
Traffic curbs around Manekshaw Parade Ground
The traffic will be diverted on Tuesday from 8.30 am to 10.30 am from BRV Junction to Kamaraj Road Junction (both directions) on Cubbon Road, due to Republic Day celebrations at Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw Parade Ground.
Vehicles coming from Infantry road towards Manipal Centre should move on Infantry Road, Safina Plaza, left turn, Main Guard Road, Allies Circle, Dispensary Road, Kamaraja Road and Dickenson Road junction. Take a right turn to K.R. Road and Cubbon Road junction. Take a left turn to Cubbon Road onwards to Manipal Centre circle.
Vehicles coming from Manipal Junction towards BRV Junction on Cubbon Road will take left turn at K.R. Road jn, Cauvery Emporium Jn. Then right turn to M.G. Road, Anil Kumble Circle. Then right turn to BRV Junction and proceed to central street.
Vehicles coming from Anil Kumble Circle towards Cubbon Road will go straight on Central Street Jn, take a right turn to Infantry Road, Safina Plaza. Take a left turn to Main Guard Road, Allies Circle, Dispensary Road, Kamaraja Road and Dickenson Road jn., take a right to K.R. Road junction. Take a left turn to Cubbon Road and to Manipal Centre junction.
All the invitees with yellow car passes should come on Cubbon Road, enter Gate No 1 and park vehicles on the western side of the Ground.
White car pass holders have to use Gate No. 2 on Cubbon Road and park vehicles on western side of parking lot.
Pink pass holders must park vehicles on Cubbon Road, near Safina Plaza, Kamaraja Road and enter through Gate No. 3 by walk.
Green Car pass holders have to park vehicles on Kamaraja Road, Main Guard Cross, Shivajinagar bus stand and Shivajinagar Chota Maidan and enter the ground through Gate No.4 & 5 by walk.
