Oommen Chandy to inaugurate 61st National School Athletic Meet on January 29

KOZHIKODE: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the 61st National School Athletic Meet at Medical College Ground here on January 29, education minister P. K. Abdu Rabb said here on Saturday.

“The government will not accept the central government’s help of Rs 20 lakh to organise the meet. The state cabinet has agreed to release Rs 2 crore to conduct the meet. All local issues will be resolved with the help of the district collector and deputy director of education,” the minister said.

“Everything is going on smoothly and the registration for the meet will be held at BEM School from January 25. More than 2,700 students will participate in 24 categories. In addition to the accommodation facilities for the athletes and officials, about 250 hotel rooms have been booked. The torch relay of the meet will start from Trikkottur school where Olympian P. T. Usha studied,” he added.
