NIA gets transit remand of six arrested from Karnataka
BENGALURU: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) sleuths, who had picked up 14 terror suspects in six cities across the country on Friday, legalised the arrests of eight more suspects on Saturday, taking up the total number of arrests to 13. The NIA had formalized the arrests of five suspects on Friday.
The NIA, which had arrested two suspects from Karnataka – a chemical engineer Najmul Huda alias Majnu, 25, from Mangaluru and software engineer Mohammed Afzal alias Abu Mariyam alias Yasir, 35, from Bengaluru – on Friday, formally arrested the four others who were picked up.
The arrested are Syed Mujahid, 33, of Tumakuru, Asif Ali alias Arman Saani, 21, Suhail Ahmed alias Sohail alias Hafes Saab, 23, and Muhammad Abdul Ahad alias Bade Amir alias Sulaiman, 46. All the three are residents of Bengaluru.
The NIA officials said that the eight more were arrested based on the information extracted during the interrogation of the five arrested accused on Friday.
Transit remand
All the six accused arrested from the state were produced before the NIA Special Court on the premises of ACMM Court on Nrupatunga Road on Saturday afternoon.
The NIA officials sought the transit remand of all the accused and the court remanded them in NIA custody till January 27, directing the officials to produce the six accused before the NIA Court in Delhi before January 27. The police had made heavy bandobast arrangements at the court.
Police sources said that the NIA is taking all the six accused to New Delhi by flight on Sunday morning. “They would not be taken together but will be shifted separately due to security reasons,” an official said.
The six suspects from the Karnataka are: Najmul Huda alias Majnu, 25, Mangaluru; Mohammed Afzal alias Abu Mariyam alias Yasir, 35, Bengaluru; Syed Mujahid, 33, Tumakuru; Asif Ali alias Arman Saani, 21, Bengaluru; Suhail Ahmed alias Sohail alias Hafes Saab, 23, Bengaluru, and Muhammad Abdul Ahad alias Bade Amir alias Sulaiman, 46, Bengaluru.
Suspects arrested from other states are: Mudabbir Mushtaq Shaikh alias Abu Musab, 33, Mumbai; Mohammed Nafees Khan alias Fatima Khan alias Abu Zarrar alias Akram, 24, Hyderabad; Mohammed Shareef Moinuddin Khan, 54, Hyderabad; Mohammad Aleem, 20, Lucknow; Mohammed Obedullah Khan alias Obaid alias Talha, 33, Hyderabad; Abu Anas, 24, Hyderabad, and Mohammad Hussain Khan alias Jamil, 36, Mazgaon in Mumbai.
