Power staff meet fails to find solution

A crucial meeting on bifurcation of employees remained inconclusive.

Hyderabad: A crucial meeting on bifurcation of employees working in the Transco, Genco and power distribution companies of AP and Telangana remained inconclusive on Friday. Senior officials, led by the chairmen and managing directors of Telangana and AP Genco and Transco respectively met and discussed the division of 70,000 employees and officers working in the energy sector.

Sources said the officials of the two States also discussed the possibility of reaching an “out of court settlement” for the 1,253 employees who have been relieved by TS government based on their nativity. These employees working in Genco, Transco, and Discoms formed a Joint Action Committee and moved court. The case is pending in the court.

Meanwhile, AP government has moved the Supreme Court against the TS government’s decision to relieve the employees on nativity basis. The Apex Court has said it will hear the case only after it is disposed of by the High Court. “Though no decision was taken on any of the issues, it was decided to meet again on January 27 with relevant data, nativity and other details of employees to facilitate smooth division,” sources said.

When contacted, AP CMD K. Vijayanand said they would meet again on January 27. “There was no discussion on sharing of power. We only spoke about division of employees,” he said.
