Police complaints authority: Karnataka High Court seeks affidavits

The bench directed that the affidavit must be submitted to the Karnataka Legal Services Authority by February 15.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Friday directed Superintendent of Police of all the districts and the city police commissioners in the state to file an affidavit with regard to the enforcement of police complaint authority. The court was hearing the petition seeking directions to implement the Supreme Court order to introduce police complaint authority.

“If the state government is not cooperating in implementing rules, then they may have to listen to the music of Supreme Court,” court observed while directing the SPs and the police commissioners to submit an affidavit with respect to raising awareness about police complaint authority, appointing chairpersons and members to the authority, have helplines and complaint boxes outside courts, police stations and other public places.

The bench directed that the affidavit must be submitted to the Karnataka Legal Services Authority by February 15. The bench passed an order directing the home department officials to implement the order dated October 9, 2015 of the court which had directed the legal services authorities to enforce the SC orders and adjourned the next hearing to February 19.
