Kidney operation on foreigners banned in Sri Lanka
Hyderabad: The Sri Lankan government has imposed a ban on the kidney transplant surgeries in the country after Nalgonda police unearthed a major kidney transplant racket with links to the Sri Lankan hospitals. Nalgonda Police which burst the racket is taking legal opinion on sending an investigating team to Lanka.
An official release from the Sri Lankan health ministry said the country decided to stop all the transplants involving foreigners, till they reach to the bottom of the racket.
“I have asked for details from our Crime Investigation Depa-rtment about this,” said Sri Lankan health minister Raji-tha Sirinayake in an official release.
Sri Lanka police has been told of Sri Lankan doctors who transplanted kidneys allegedly bought from Indian donors violating the local laws.
“According to law, organs cannot be bought or sold. If any doctor has carried out a procedure involving a bought organ, we will ensure such persons will be struck off the medical list,” said the release.
