Public ready to grill candidates
Hyderabad: Residents would grill the contesting candidates when they are approached for votes. Resident Welfare Association started questioning ex-corporators during initial days of campaigning on how much they have spent on ward development.
Mr. Shiva Kiran of Kapra ward said, “The RWA has been complaining about a drainage that gets clogged in monsoon and sewerage enters the houses. There are other problems. The candidate and his men will have to answer us when they approach for vote.”
Each corporator is allocated 1 crore per year to carry out work suggested and approved by the ward committee . It is mandate for the ward committee to include 10 members from the RWA but in most cases the corporator’s hench men form the committee. ‘Open Secunderabad Cantonment All Roads” (Oscar) has taken the stand that any candidate for GHMC election who wants the votes of OSCAR members fmust support the reopening of closed roads, removal of all night restrictions, and a stop to closure of further roads. January 21 is the day when valid list of candidates will be out.
