NAAC team begins AU assessment

8-member panel will be here for three days.

Visakhapatnam: The eight-member team of the NAAC, headed by, Bharathi Vidya Peeth, Pune, former vice-chancellor, S.F. Patil started assessment of Andhra University here on Monday. The assessment will continue for three days. The assessment has begun with a presentation to the NAAC team by AU vice-chancellor Prof. G.S.N. Raju. The team members also visited various departments in the varsity.

Prof. Raju explained the progress of the university since 2008 to the NAAC team. He explained to them about the vision of the university and the achievements made during the last eight years. He said the university has enrolled 9,052 students pursuing their education in 65 courses.

“There are about 471 affiliated colleges and the number of foreign students has been increasing every year,” he said. Prof. Raju gave them in detail the demand for some courses, number of teachers, examination methods, etc. The university has signed 76 MoUs with various foreign and Indian universities and completed 358 projects incurring an expenditure of Rs 159.3 crore. He also explained them that 3,505 research papers were submitted and published 163 books.

The NAAC members suggested the varsity authorities maintain good standards of teaching and learning and be role model for other universities. Later, the team split into three groups and visited colleges on the campus. While Prof S.F. Patil is the panel chairman, Prof. Yoginder Varma, Prof. Deepti Bhalla, Prof. B.N. Rai, Prof. Asim Kumar Chakrabarti, Dr K.P. Yadav, Dr Mewa Singh and Prof M.H. Hirani are the members of the team.
