Kasargod attack points to BJP's diversionary tactics: Pinarayi Vijayan

The CPM leader said that the incident in Kasargod was highly condemnable.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday accused the RSS-BJP of raking up beef politics in the state to divide people on communal lines.

The CPM leader said that the incident in Kasargod was highly condemnable. RSS-BJP activists allegedly intercepted a tempo carrying buffalo and oxen, and assaulted three youths - Ashraf, Hamid and Muhammad Kunhi.

He said the assailants came in 15 bikes which indicated that it was a planned attack. There had been similar incidents in the past to create communal divide.

A police patrol vehicle happened to pass through that area at the time of the incident. Had the cops not intervened, there would have been another 'beef murder', he said in his Facebook post.

Mr Vijayan said that beef was not banned in the state and there was no legal hurdle in transporting buffalo or cows. Moreover, if the cattle are transported illegally the police could act against the offenders.

The CPM leader said even Indian cricketer Mohamad Sami's family was targeted in the name of beef.

Mr Vijayan said a large number of people consumed meat in the state and majority of them are beef eaters. He said the Sangh Parivar had no business to interfere with the eating habits of people.

He called upon people to maintain a strict vigil to counter attempts aimed at creating communal divide in the state.
